Anselmo Mendes Beira Int. is a wine produced in the Beira Interior region, sub region of Cova da Beira. A region surrounded by Serra da Estrela, Marofa and Malcata characterized by a harsh climate with negative temperatures in the winter and very hot and dry summers. For this wine old vineyards of Síria and Fonte Cal varieties were used, a region characterized by citric aromas and by a unique mineralityand freshness, totally implemented in all the border line of the country. Handpicked grapes into small boxes and carried to the winery in a short period of time. Total de-stemmning. Very soft pressing of the whole de-stemmed grapes. Long cold clarification. Fermentationin 400-litre French oak barrels. Ageing in these barrels for 9 months with regular bâtonnage on the whole lees. 24 months of positive ageing in bottle. Austere nose. Clear minerality with hints of spices (saffron and nutmeg). Hints of dried fruits, petrol and vegetal notes typical of the region. Creamy and full bodied mouth, structured and buttery. Long, fresh and extremely mineral end.
